Hello families!
We are so sorry that we were unable to be with you during your students last days here before this unplanned break. We miss them already! With our school being closed we are going to be posting some activities for you to do with your child from home, if you are able. We understand that these are difficult times. Please check the CBE's website daily for current updates: www.cbe.ab.ca
Please feel free to reach out to Mr. Soderlng at sgsoderling@cbe.ab.ca or Mrs. McManes at dlmcmanes@cbe.ab.ca if you have any questions about your child's learning.
READING ACTIVITIES:
All of our students are registered with Raz-Kids. This is able to be accessed through a computer by visiting www.kidsa-z.com/login or on a tablet by searching "Raz Kids" in the app store. If your child does not know their password, please send their teacher an email so that we can get it to you.
MATH ACTIVITIES:
Cut up a piece of paper, sticky note, or old receipt. On the back, have your child write the following numbers:
Grade 1: 18 20 11 8 5 2 1 0 10 15
Grade 2: 22 17 39 49 87 33 45 12 8 5
Put the papers in a bag and have your child pick two papers out at a time. They will create an addition number sentence by putting the biggest number first. For example, if they pick 18 and 5, they will solve "18 + 5".
Here is a reminder of the some of our math strategies:
INQUIRY:
I can identify some of the natural resources and jobs of the Prairie region and say how they are connected.
We are continuing our learning of the Prairies.
Here are four photos of some natural resources. Please show your child the photos and ask them the following questions:
What do you see?
What do you wonder about?
What jobs or occupations do you think these resources will create?

ART:

READING ACTIVITIES:
I can grow as a reader at home:

If you have access to other books, please encourage your child to read at home as much as possible. You can have them read aloud to you, or you can read to them and ask them questions about what the story was about. Examples of questions you can ask your child:
What did you like about the story?
Who were the characters in the story?
What happened in the beginning, middle, and ending of the story?
Does this story remind you of anything?
MATH ACTIVITIES:
I can practice addition through games.

ART:
While exploring Saskatoon during our Canadian journey, our students have been exploring the history of the Ukranian people coming to live in the prairies. We began constructing and designing our Ukranian Pysanky eggs. Students created a design plan of their pysanky eggs, built them out of paper mache, and the next step is to colour them using art supplies you have at home (Markers will work best). After your eggs have been completed, take a picture and email it in!
MUSIC: (From Mrs. H McDee)

Canadian Throat Singers carry on the traditions of the Elders from their Mother’s village. Are the drums in the video Membranophone or Idiophone?
HEALTH:
If you have the story "Stick and Stone," please read it with your child. If not, here is a video of someone reading it. We have been talking a lot about resiliency, which means the ability to "bounce back" when things are tough. Some questions to ask your child:
Did any characters in this story show resiliency?
Does this story remind you of anything?
Here is an arctic yoga journey for your child to enjoy:
If you are able to complete any of these activities, please send a message or pictures to Mr. Soderling or Mrs. McManes
Take care!
