October, 2019

Through our novel study, our students are exploring 'The Three Little Pigs Count to 100'. Students are taking the familiar story and retelling their own version of the story through comic based writing. We are learning how to use speech bubbles and thinking bubbles in our comics.

We are continuing to broaden our counting skills and number recognition by making connections through 'The Three Little Pigs'. Numbers 1-10 are represented with a symbol. Our students are being challenged to combine different images with the corresponding numbers to gain an awareness of different combination of numbers (Ex. how many ways can you make 5, 10, etc.)

Pumpkin Investigation
We explored our classroom pumpkins during October. At first we explored pumpkins using our '5 Senses' (what does it feel like, smell like, look like, etc.) We created perspective drawings of the pumpkin using different shading strategies. Each student designed during making of Jack-o-Lantern. We made estimations prior to our investigation (how many seeds in a pumpkin, will it float or sink). Students used grouping as a strategy to count the pumpkin seeds by grouping them in 5's.
